Medical Hub: Sunset on the Faсade

MEDICINE

After the rain, the sky is still covered with clouds, but the evening sun is already beginning to break through them. In this moment, the air feels especially clean and fresh. This feeling became our key idea while working on the evening look of this project’s faсade.

Profiled polycarbonate is a relatively inexpensive material. However, it’s important to know how to work with it so that it makes an impression.

The material has both texture and pattern at once, but not every color works well with it. Even at the design stage, we predicted how the polycarbonate would behave under lighting, and selected colors that reveal its texture. Warm white tones and a scenario with pink, amber, and gradient transitions — an imitation of the sky’s color during sunset. The illuminated material resembles perforated glass.

To preserve the visual cleanliness of the façade, RGBW strips were integrated inside — into the gaps between the polycarbonate panels and the load-bearing façade. The vertical rhythm of the waves set the logic for their placement, and the micro-prismatic layer of the polycarbonate became an optical tool that shapes the light diffusion.

Nearby are a park and residential windows, so dynamic lighting was consciously avoided. Vertical light works only on the pedestrian zone side, while on the park side we calculated the façade’s reflected glow and left a soft horizontal gradient to minimize the lighting’s impact on the environment.
